camping!

we took hudson and went camping in western Massachusetts a few weeks ago. it was a beautiful drive . . . the landscape varied and the trees took on more color the further north and west we went. hudson did really well on the drive as excited as he was as we packed the car.

we had a great time together. we camped in beartown state forest on the edge of a lake. we hiked around the lake in the evening - parts of the hike were in the appalachan trail. that was pretty sweet.

i built the fire for the evening and the morning. we made dinner on our camping stove and played cards. we stayed up late (well, not really late, but it was dark and we were cold and tired by the time we went to bed) talking around the fire.

hudson HATED sleeping in the tent, so we tied him up outside thinking he'd sleep there like he did when jon took him camping in alaska. instead he tried to dig into a chipmunk burrow for an hour before we had to move him to where he couldn't reach it. then he was quiet long enough for us to get warm in our layers and layers of clothes and blankets (if you are wondering what to get for me for christmas, pool together with some friends and get me the REI Mojave women's regular size sleeping bag . . . then give the rest of the money you would have spent on me - since you pooled money together - to a charity or to the poor in your town) before he started crying. he was cold! an alaskan dog! cold and not wanting to sleep outdoors? that's our dog i guess.

so he slept in the car.

anyway, we had a wonderful time reconnecting with nature, cooking over fire, drinking coffee sitting around the fire, hiking, and just spending time talking with each other . . . we stopped at an amazing brewery and an organic coffee shop on our way back to providence the next day.

back to the grind of city life . . .

more to come,
love,
tabitha and jon
