the days will be getting shorter again . . . it seems like summer just started (and it did). but here in alaska it stays light until like 11:30 or later and gets light again at about 3am . . . it actually doesn't get completely dark at all here anyway.
so, have a good time celebrating with whatever it is that you do!
so things have been good here . . . the sun has been shining for the past few days . . . we really appreciate that. it was pretty nice yesterday, so we took the dogs to sandy beach so they could run and swim and eat nasty things. all of these things, they did.
last weekend, dylan and jon took the dogs camping. i didn't go because i wasn't feeling well. and in alaska it could have been dangerous. :) (if you click on the links you'll see why its funny). it was hudson's first time camping and from what i hear, i don't think he liked it. he complained a lot and couldn't get comfortable while everyone was sitting around the campfire. he paced around the tent and wouldn't sleep until jon let him out of the tent. he slept right outside the door of the tent all night. he was soooo cranky in the morning and didn't feel well because he drank a lot of the ocean the day before . . . i don't think he could figure out why they weren't going home when it got dark. anyway, they came home in the morning and hudson proceeded to drink 2 bowls full of water. peed like crazy and later . . . well his poop was less than solid. he layed around for like 2 days and now he feels better. hopefully he will get used to camping. cause i have a feeling it will happen a lot more this summer. we've decided he is actually a big cat. while they were sitting around the campfire a whale surfaced three times . . . not more than 50 yards from them! i wish i was there . . . amazing!
anyway, while the boys were gone, deborah and kayla came over to spend the night and we ate cookie dough and unabashedly watched TITANIC. all of it. i made fun of it. but inside, it moved me. :)
so, massage is slowly getting off the ground . . . and by that i mean, i am pretty bored during the day when everyone else is at work. i am still applying for second jobs . . . i just want to be useful and not lame.
last night, we went and watched deborah's double header softball game! her team won. and they aren't very good - she'll tell you that. but it was a lot of fun! and who plays softball this close to a glacier? (you can see it in the background of this picture):
we'll we're all safe and happy here. trying to make money so we can afford school and life the other 9 months of the year. let us know if you want a postcard!
so i finally got a job in juneau! i will be working for a local bed and breakfast as an on-call massage therapist for their guests as well as having the ability to use their massage site for my own personal clientel. huzzah. it feels good to know that i am capable of moving to a new town and getting myself a professional job.
and also? i live on the side of a mountain . . . so i'm pretty sure i'll be a bit more fit when all is said and done. esp since i don't have a car and my workplace is over a mile away. that will be a nice walk!
Hudson all swollen and groggy from his recent surgery.
so, hudson is loving alaska. esp the porcupines. i wasn't there yet, but apparently he caught one . . . and it surprised him with a face full of quills. the boys say that he had about 40 quills on his face and that it took about 4 hours of struggle to hold him down and pull most of them out. in the process, jon's glasses got busted . . . awesome. we don't have vision on his health insurance.
when i arrived, it was appointed the task of taking hudson to the vet. there were two quills still stuck in his face and he wouldn't let us get near them. one was working its way out already, but the other was inside his mouth up where his gums met his lip. so, to the vet we went. they had to drug him so he would relax enough to let them near his face. he was all swollen and had thrown up that morning. the vet was great about taking care of him. they had to shave his face to get at the quill :( so now our dreams of using him to get money from the tourists are shot. :)
$300 later . . . (i thought we were supposed to be saving money this summer? i think this trip will cost us more than we will make with fixing jon's glasses and all the porcupines here!) he was so groggy when they brought him out of the office, he had to lean on me for support. he slept all the way home in the car (this is not usual - he will go for hours on a car ride without even sitting or lying down, he is usually pacing constantly). i had to help him in and out of the car and up the stairs to the house. he immediately went into his kennel and slept off the rest of the anesthesia.
he's feeling a lot better now. he and jack (the dog that lives at the house we are staying at) play together and wrestle. its so funny! jack can actually stand up underneath hudson, he is so much smaller. but that silly pair get along great.
right now they are lazing about the house while i struggle with the technical difficulties that shouldn't come along with printing out one's resume, but do. been here for a week now and still haven't been able to apply for a job. i am about ready to scream.
i have worked a bit though. giving massage to clients who found me by word of mouth. i just want to give people my resume.
