pole beans; reflections on moving out of my apartment today

(today is the last day that i am able to be inside my apartment . . . we have to turn in the keys by midnight . . .)

i planted these pole beans on the lattice on my back balconey . . . (crap, i just realized that i forgot to take a picture of them before i cut them down!) . . . and they looked like this at one time:

since then, they had climbed all the way to the top of the lattice and produced a few baby beans . . . they were doing really well (despite the fact that the back porch doesn't get much sun) so i left them to the last minute . . .

i just cut it down today (cause we are moving out and i can't just leave it) and ate the one baby bean that was ready . . . it tasted good.

bittersweet. but good.

and now i am sad.

well, hello

so this whole moving thing is no fun. i quite. officially.

and (for tanya) i decided to write a blog!

i just got home from work (my massage studio) and my pilates class (my abs burn!) and am sitting down to relax for a bit with some chips and salsa (oh how i will miss trader joe's when i get to RI!) and an iced rice milk latte (made by your truly) . . . after i am done here i will continue to pack (booooo!) and then head to work at the zoo (yay!!) where i will serve beer and wine (in the july RAIN) to all the concert attendees while listening to the musical stylings of patti griffin (resounding Cheer!!).

then i will come home and pack again.

here's a thought i recently had while talking to a friend of mine who is with child (and had recently seen "sicko"): so you know how auto insurance companies are set up so that if you hit someone, you have to pay for it? well, why aren't health insurance companies set up the same way? when you "hit" a lady (as in, knock her up) why doesn't YOUR health care have to pay for it instead of hers? you put it there.

reasons we could think of as to why this is not so:
1) if men carried babies, EVERYONE would have free health care. cause that's just the truth.
2) because (legally) the fetus isn't actually a human being (until it comes out the yoni) then the health care costs are actually just going to pay for the woman's body and her health . . . c'mon all you conservative fundamentalists, go to town on that one!
3) pregnancy has been so "medicalized" in our culture that it is mostly seen as a disease to be treated rather than as a natural part of life to be celebrated and honored.
4) ok, this isn't a reason, it is just a question: how come in this country it costs so effing much to get born and to die??? these are things that just happen to us. we can't control it and yet we are expected to PAY for it? funerals cost SO MUCH and the LAST thing a grieving family needs are burial plots, cremation, coffins, etc to pay for . . . and birth! don't get me started. when i get pregnant, i am moving to ireland where it is FREE. even for people who are citizens. cause birth happens and we shouldn't be penalized for it.

there . . . take that and run with it. i would like to hear your (RESPECTFUL and THOUGHTFUL and PEACEFUL) responses.

also, has anyone seen "sicko"? i haven't yet . . . i tend to not like MM too much because of the way he treats people, but he makes good points and gets people thinking and talking about important stuff. i just wish he didn't have to be so mean about it sometimes.

there you go tanya . . . how did i do?

i love the zoo!

so, last night working at the zoo was SO MELLOW compared to last week.

i think i served like 2 glasses of wine, one bottle of wine and ten beers in two hours . . . i made maybe $100. last week i sold over $3000 in alcohol in 4 hours! that's a lot of alcohol!

but then again, the wailers (last week's band) were BOUND to bring in more portlanders than an orchestra. plus it was HOT outside and there was no shade. last week's show sold out and there was this haze over the field . . . you know the haze i am talking about (just ask jess if she has a doobie).

but all in all, i love my job. especially the free food. and the funny people i work with.

and learning to pour the perfect pint of beer.

and i get my own wine cork. to keep.

all part of the job people.

ok, i am going to a dress fitting now (always a bridesmaid . . . wait, what?).

then to the blues fest?

what are you doing?

feeling a bit better

thanks to rebecca marie, we sold a bunch of our stuff the other day! we now have enough gas money to get us just about to salt lake city!

we are considering making a little map and moving a car along our planned route as people buy things from us . . . sound fun, but i might not have the time or energy to put that together.

anyway, help us get the rest of the way to salt lake city . . . or to the next big town, like denver or something.

we've got all kinds of things . . . wall art, movies, cds, clothes, candles, a bread box, baskets, an entertainment center, a desk chair, end tables . . . know anyone who needs this stuff?
