late summer?
so yesterday and today have been the coldest rainiest days of ever . . . well at least since 1929 says the weatherman. not since then has there been a july THIS WET in SE ALASKA. wow.so, since we haven't seen the sun in almost a month, WHY does my dog choose NOW to blow his coat?

today
today jon got to go dog sledding on a glacier.i worked 9 hours and 45 minutes.
then we watched "persepolis."
that movie rocks.
now he and dylan and abby are watching "Poltergeist". . . it am too scared to watch it with them. "ernest scared stupid" scared me. seriously.
but i can hear all the sounds from the movie. yuck.

This one (above) is deborah and i at the 3rd of july celebration. the weather was actually sort of nice enough that we could hang out on her porch. though it did sprinkle and we all got pretty wet during the actual fireworks.
here is a picture of a few of the peeps we work with at the canopy adventures. we were walking home from a company bbq and passed this garage sale with a free box. we couldn't resist.

WHALES!
that's right. whales. 8 or 9 of them. at one point they were swimming right under the boat. the one in this video that is slapping his fins over and over was a little (and by little i mean HUGE) baby humpack.
gorgeous.

HAPPY 3rd OF JULY!
in alaska it doesn't get dark until at least 11:00 ... mostly 11:30, but since the solstice, it is getting earlier. then it starts to get light around 3 or earlier.so, to celebrate the fourth of july in Juneau, the city does fireworks on the 3rd of July. at 11:59pm.
the city of juneau is on a channel of the sea in SE alaska. across the channel is douglas isl (a part of the city). they shoot fireworks off over the channel and both juneau and douglas get an awesome show!
the whole city seemed to be in marine park on the wharf last night. our friends twirled fire. someone jumped in the channel (the water is FREEZING this far north)! we sang loudly and obnoxiously. we cheered for bald eagles. we sang alot of team america songs. some people were drinking bud light. what better way to represent america than by being utterly uncultured, slightly drunk and blowing stuff up? it was rumored that harrison ford was in town on a yacht, so we speculated which yacht might be his. good times.
i was up much too late and am now off to work.
