reason #981 why i love my husband

on tuesday i had two quizzes in my evening class. after work i planned to go straight home and study for the quizzes for about 20 minutes before i had to rush to class.
it was raining. i rushed into the house in the rain, slipping in mud a little on my way in.
i had been in the apartment for about 10 minutes until i started to smell something . . . it was dookie.
that wasn't mud i had slipped in. it was crap.
it had even gotten on my hand.
i gagged a little.
so, instead of cramming, i spent the 20 minutes searching my apartment for any traces of crap that might have tracked through, finding different shoes to wear, spraying yummy smelling lavender on everything and rushing out the door.

yesterday, my husband cleaned the dook off of my shoe for me.
he didn't even complain once.

am i the luckiest girl in the world or what?

you know i am.

hippy kids are the best!

my friend's sister has this kid. he's the cutest little hippy kid ever. he is about five years old.

one day not long ago, they were driving around in olympia, washington and he calls out to his momma:

"mom, pull over! i have to hug and kiss a tree!"

so she did. and he did. and then he got back in the car and they kept driving.

how cute is that?

if you want to take the test below as well, i think the links may be broken . . . so try this instead.

and at the end, we got to make up any law we wanted. mine was:
"I would dictate that...people should think about the consequences of their actions, especially environmentally (and more than just economically), before they act."—TG from Portland, OR

but i am not as airheaded as this guy

not too long ago, my husband and i went to a wedding.

the groom's brother R was one of our groomsman in our wedding. my husband was a groomsmen in R's wedding. and R was a groomsman in his brother N's wedding.

all clear?

ok.

so, during the wedding, this officieant kept calling N by R's name. he would say, "as i've watched A and R in their relationship . . . oh, i mean A and N!"

now, this was a classy wedding. black bow ties, red roses, evening ceremony. and here is the officiant calling the groom by his brother's name every. single. time!

to top it off, during the candle lighting ceremony, he backed away from center stage and stood by this ledge that had some candles on it and LIT HIMSELF ON FIRE!

i see R lean over and pat his sleeve out and this big cloud of black smoke floats into the air.

as the wedding party exited the stage after the ceremony, they brought with them the stench of a burnt polyester suitcoat.

seriously?

how i am a big airhead--part two

so i like coffee.

i also never carry cash.

i hate to wear a coat.

you'll see what these things have to do with each other in due time.

i went to coffee with my friend k. i didn't want to bring my purse. so, i grabbed my debit card out of my wallet and stuck in it the pocket of my oh-so-comfy-but-not-at-all-functional-zip-up-sweater.

i go to get coffee. i enjoy it emmensely. i probably ordered an americano. but that's not the point.

the next day, i washed the sweater.

the next day, i realize i cannot find my debit card.
did i leave it at the laundrymat?
no. i'm sure it is in my apartment somewhere. i probably just feel out of the pocket of the sweater that i am sure i remembered wearing the day i last used the card.

husband says, "you should call the bank and cancel your card."

"no way. i know it is in this apartment."

i wasn't at all worried about it. but usually i can find things right away (even though my house is in no way organized--sorry loo) and hadn't been able to find this thing for a few days now.

i wake up at 2am. i remember where it is! freezing, i walk through our drafty apartment in my chonies and check the pocket of my seldom worn jacket (the one i've worn once since the rainy season began in oregon this year). there it was. waiting patiently for me to find it. how it got from my sweater to my jacket is a mystery. how it wasn't lost in obilvion, found by a criminal in the local laundrymat and used to steal my identity is a miracle.

i promptly scolded the debit card for running away. it is currently grounded and sentanced to living in my wallet until my next coffee craving hits.

*why am i confessing these things on in the internet?*

hey, it's a popular car--or--how i am a big airhead

so, last wednesday, i crawl painfully out of bed. i wish it were the weekend already. i try to think of any reason possible to wait just a little longer under the covers. it's no use. i have to go to work and i have to be on time . . . but i remember that i have a training to go to that starts one hour later than my normal work day.

"hooray!"

i go lounge on the couch in my pajamas.

my husband's cell phone rings. it is d. he is home from his summer in alaska and he will be here in 10 minutes.

i panic.

i'm not dressed. the house is a mess. d is coming over in ten minutes!

by the time d arrives, i am dressed and trying to find an acceptable way to keep my dreads out of my face.

hugs all around.

after some chatting, we all have to go. d and my husband leave together as d offered to give jon a ride to school.

i realize that because i got dressed so quickly and because i don't have to be at work until later than normal, i have time for a coffee. i drive down the street to my favorite coffee shop that i pass every morning on the way to work, gazing wistfully into the windows. this time i get to stop and go in.

jon and d are in line. jerks.

"why didn't you invite me?"

"we thought you had to go to work."

whatever.

we get our coffee and then we all really do have to get going. i cross the street and take out my keys. i press the button on the electronic opener on my key ring. nothing happens. i'd say about 2/3 of the time this thing works. the other 1/3, i'm mostly screwed. no worries. i take out my car key and stick it in the lock. it wont go in without some effort. i look at my key. is it bent? maybe.

i force the lock open and get in the car.

hmmmm. the seat needs to be adjusted. jon must have been driving last night. i reach up and adjust the mirror wondering why i didn't notice the seat position as i drove to the coffee shop. i go to eject the drink holder and place my drink in it.

wait.

why are my cds out of place?

who put the faceplate on the stereo?

did someone break into my car?

that's not my faceplate.

these aren't my cds.

this isn't my car!!

i grab my coffee and jump out.

two cars back is another green, subaru legacy outback. that one has the fairy airfreshner hanging from the rearview mirror. that one is my car.

oops.

i'm not sure how much later, but some unsuspecting individual got into their car later that day and thought "why is my seat more forward? why is the drink holder ejected? why was my car unlocked? why is my mirror moved? did someone break into my car?"

classic goldilocks moment.

what do you expect? my morning was all out of whack. d coming home, getting some extra sleep, going to work later than normal, stopping for coffee. all out of my normal routine.

hey, and these are very popular cars in portland. they are everywhere.

and i'm an airhead.
