ticks and REI and so much more!
after we took hudson to the vet and getting him vaccinated for lime's disease, we took him hiking in the woods. he LOVED it! he is such a good hiking dog! he stays mostly on the trail and always stays in eyesight. but he also loves sniffing for rodents and trying to get hawks out of their trees and eating rabbit poop. he eats so much crap. i'm amazed that he didn't have any intestinal parasites (the vet did a test for them and it came out negative).this is hudson trying to find a way to get to the top of the rock with jon:

he did get a lot of ticks this week though, even though we put his flea and tick medicine on him . . . it SAYS that it kills ALL ticks . . . well, not the 9 or so that we've had to pull out of him. what's funny is we NEVER found any ticks on him until AFTER we put that medicine on him . . . weird. it's like it ATTRACTS TICKS instead of repelling them.
he does so good letting us pull them out though - probably because he knows he'll get a treat when it is all done. it is sooooo gross.
anyway, yesterday we went to REI for the christmas sale. jon bought me my christmas present (i am going to be SO surprised when i open it) and we got some other gifts for people (maybe you?) as well as a backpack for hudson.
when we got home we tried it on him and he was so good! he stood still and let me put it on hiim and didn't seem to mind it. we put some weights in the pockets and he just carried them around. he didn't try to take it off or anything. jon did some research and it says that malamutes are working dogs and can carry up to 50 pounds on their own. the vet said it would be good for him to just let him wear his pack around the house so he gets some exercise carrying stuff and feels like he is "helping" out or doing some work.
anyway, so now when we hike or camp, he can pack his own things in and out. it even has little drain holes in it in case he decides to go swimming while he is wearing it! :)
so, he and i both received our christmas gifts early . . .

my dog is kickass
so, we took hudson to the vet today. it was our first trip there with him and we were nervous that he would freak out.in fact, he did fabulously - nevermind the part about how to ran into the back room and whined when we wouldn't let him jump up on the counter in the waiting room to say hello to the receptionist. but he did GREAT!
they gave him 3 shots and he didn't cry one time.
they took a blood sample to test for heartworm etc and he didn't even whine.
they poked and prodded him and he does NOT have an ear infection. the vet said he probably just had a virus and should be fine.
he got tons and tons of treats and love and petting from the staff there.
we have to go back in a few weeks for the follow up shot for his lime disease vaccine. and then we can take him hiking!!!
he is one expensive, spoiled, happy dog.
after the vet, we took him to the dog park. there were about 6 other BIG dogs there! usually it is a bunch of tiny yippy dogs that are too afriad of hudson to play with him. but all of these dogs were ready to run and play. it was great.
so, now he is all wrapped up in the blanket he stole from our roommate, asleep on the floor in our room, all tuckered out.
i heart him.
in other news: i have a job interview today for a better (hopefully) job that will get me more hours so i can afford stuff . . . stuff like my massage license in RI.
AND i drove up to boston yesterday to see my sister during her very long layover on her way to ireland (LUCKY!) to visit our other sister (DOUBLE LUCKY). we think we found the apartments used in the filming of the Departed. we got red cups (wink for arwen) and ate at the Cheers bar (mmmmmm caprise on pannini).
My sister will fly back in this weekend and spend the weekend (and her birthday) with us in Providence. the best part?? we are going to see BRIGHT EYES on saturday! yes!
everything it must belong somewhere . . .

my baby is sick
my poor hudson has a runny nose and keeps scratching his ears really deeply . . . i think he got a cold or ear infection from when mommy let him swim in the ocean . . . i am taking him to the vet to get him all taken care of.i just want him to be a healthy, happy boy.

so i get up this morning and i don't even realize that it is wednesday.something spectacular was supposed to happen today and i didn't even think about it.
until i was making lunch and my dog started barking. so we look outside and watch a delivery man walk away.
jon goes out the door on his way to school and comes back in with a PACKAGE! for ME!!!

provdence
the leaves are changing here . . . it's sort of nice, but not anything i haven't seen before. we hope to head somewhere up north this weekend or something like to vermont to see some of the leaves before they are all gone and bare for the entire winter . . . i'll let you know. for now, i must take the werewolf to the dog park before he eats me.peace.
