ooooooooooooooooooklahoma!

i leave tomorrow to catch a 730am plane to oklahoma.

i am visiting my sister who goes to school in oklahoma city. we are using her spring break to help my grandma go back to her house in colorado from where she stayed with my uncle in kansas all winter after my grandpa died (many of you may remember that from my blogs).

after we spend some time helping her around the house (she is planning to pack up and either move back to kansas or back out here to the west coast) we are going to arizona to visit a few old friends and see some desert.

then it's back to oklahoma city for the little sister and on a plane back to pdx for me.

sweet spring break trip. and i am wwaaaaayyyyy done with college.

peace.

embarassing story #998

so. i went hiking yesterday with my best friend j. we went up to the columbia river gorge and hiked to triple falls and back down. for the last part of the hike, you get to hike behind this waterfall. it was gorgeous. the water levels are pretty high right now and the waterfalls have so much power. every thing was wet and muddy and mossy and green and the sound of water (and traffic) was all you could hear.
we saw a few other hikers occasionally, but for the most part, the hike was ours.
so, going behind this last waterfall, there were three people on the path with their dog. an older couple and their teenageearlytwentysomthing son. they were standing on the path behind the waterfall just looking at the water coming down. we came up the path and said the usual hiker's hello to others on the path and petted their dog. then we went to go around them since they were just standing on the path. where we were was sort of muddy and slippery but also very smooth and worn down by the water. the path was sort of in this crevice that had been slowly worn in the side of the cliff that the water was coming down from and it sloped down moderately toward the water.
so, as we were going around our fellow hikers and saying hello, i wasn't paying enough attention to where i was putting my feet.
did i mention that my legs are sort of different lengths? this coupled with the fact that i am a natural clutz leads to all sorts of fun. especially during outside activities!
so, i am not paying attention to my feet and WHAM!! my inside leg slips out from under me and i gracefully slide down the side of the path into the mud. in front of strangers.

perfect.

so, my left side was facing the waterfall and my right side was facing the inner wall behind the waterfall. my right foot had hit a slipper slope in the path and slide toward the water under my left leg. i had tried to catch myself and j had tried to save me. she said later that i looked strangely graceful. but this is no consolation for having mud up the entire side of my leg, but, back, arm, in my hair, in my ear, on my face. i had a huge handful of mud too. oregon mud. grainy, earthy, dark, black, rich, mud. in my fingernails. and wait a second. my leg hurts alot. mmmmmmm nice a big bruise.
i showered off a bit in a gentle part of the waterfall. rinsed the mud from my hand and arm. j got it out of my hair and ear and we finished the hike.
she said i looked hardcore.
i just felt silly.

when i got home and looked at my leg (and took a ton of arnica!) i was pretty impressed. this is going to be a good one. i can't really sit without leaning to the left at the moment.

and that is my story.

5. What is your favorite airline? meh. not too impressed with silly airlines. I did have fun on Southwest though. I got to choose my seat and stuff :)

6. Why do you usually travel? To see friends or family (for fun or for serious events) or to learn and expand my horizons.

7. What was your longest road trip? i guess it would be the witness tour when we did all the states on the western side of colorado for the summer. stopping and singing and going to lots of boring malls. bleh

9. What was your longest non-stop flight? Frankfurt Germany to Portland Oregone. Something like 12 hours one time.

10. What was your most recent trip? day trip: to the oregon coast on sunday. Overnight trip: to see my mom in salem last weekend (the one before that was to go to seattle to see a bunch of bands and then crash with a bunch of friends in a hotel room). flight: to europe for 5 weeks.

what i did this morning

i sort of shaved my legs for the first time since september.

by "sort of" i mean there are still a lot of hairs there . . . but i knew it would be a multiple day task. there is still a lot of mowing to be done.

i quit shaving because the last time i shaved i got the WORST razor burn ever. my legs itched uncontrollably for 5 hours! and i was trying to enjoy the roller derby. instead i was insanely scratching all the skin of my legs.

there you have it. i was brave enough to give it another try today.

who knows? maybe i will finish the job tomorrow!
