hurricane.
we are getting the tail-end of yet another hurricane. after waitressing all day, i had to walk home in the rain . . . my clothes are still wet. yeah, i know i could change them. maybe i will. soon.we are getting closer to having what resembles an actually clean and liveable house. we've painted the living room, lisa's room, and our office. we bought paint for the downstairs bathroom and picked out a color for the kitchen. we've temporarily solved the storage (but not counter) shortage in the kitchen. we've got a (long) list of things for the landlord to do (co2 detector, mice, broken toilet seat) and for us to do (decorate, clean out the landing, filing). but we are coming along.
we are all having a blast living together! seriously, we stay up late playing cards and board games. we are sooooo lame.
jon and i are enjoying knowing providence a bit better this year. we have our favorite breakfast spots (blue elephant, julian's) and bakery (seven stars) coffee shops (olga's, coffee exchange, blue state) movie theatres (avalon, patriot), bars (wild colonial, GCB, wickenden pub) and other things (As220, paragon, local 121, the dog park, pie in the sky, etc). it's been good.
last night we had a debate party with some friends from Brown. wine, beer, cheese, crackers and the candidates. it was sort of disheartening actually.
and this week, i got new shoes (to replace my old, worn out keen's that i left in alaska)! they are awesome and i love them. patagonia . . . purple . . . hemp. ON SALE. love it. patagonia really is an awesome company . . . check them out and read about them to learn why.
now, we just need to get jon new shoes. and me some more shifts at work.

homemade granola, trader joe's kefir, organic agave and fair trade coffee (made into an americano by my loving husband and put into a handmade mug from juneau alaska).
everyone should be so lucky as to start off their mornings this way.

it is beautiful and lovely and folky and full of emotion and joy and longing. i love it. they are a local band here in providence . . . i will be going to one of their shows in the future. omg.

this monday is a monday to top all mondays.i had to call my gas and electric companies and sit on hold forever . . . and call back several times. and call a third party payment thingie several times . . . and cry a few times. bad news? subletters didn't pay their bills ALL SUMMER so our services are threatening to be shut off. other bad news? when i tried to pay the electric company it charged us three times (after telling me that my payments were declined) . . . the payments are pending and the company told me the bank will credit back the extra money . . . so that's good - even though all that money is frozen in our account until they do. good thing we have a little extra right now. other good news? when i called the gas company they said i had a credit of over a hundred dollars because someone made two payments last week. it wasn't me. maybe it was the subletters?
i had to do the same phone tag crap with the OLD internet company on friday. i might just let them take my money cause i am so tired of fighting all of this. i don't even WANT to get in to that story . . .
i also got the pleasure of calling the oregon DMV because the tags on our car are about to expire and we never got our stuff in the mail . . . now i get the pleasure of taking the car in for emissions testing . . . it probably wont all get done and processed until AFTER the tags expire (it takes two weeks for the OR DMV to turn all the paperwork around and then we have to wait for it to come in the mail . . . so we might not be driving for a while - which is fine cause jon and i both have bikes now!).
i also figured out how to register as an absentee voter and we have to fill all that out and fax it in . . .
wow, i've really interacted with THE MAN today. this is not like me. but . . . it does show how UNWILLING i am to become a RI local. i am clinging with all i have to my ties with the pacific northwest . . . keeping my oregon plates, voting absentee. i WILL come back to you oregon! i will!
the funny thing? everyone was so unhelpful on the phone except . . . dun dun dah! the OREGON DMV and DEQ!!! i didn't have to wait on hold AT ALL. and they were pleasant and nice and HELPFUL! they seemed surprised when i thanked them for their help very energetically. it was as if it came very naturally to them. the other NE people i talked to? completely emotionally disconnected and didn't give a crap whether you were happy with the way they interacted with you or not.

happy birthday to my hair . . .
today i got up early and swept the floor.went to work.
went to the GYM! i rode that gym bike so many miles.
got home, took a shower and realized . . .
TODAY, MY DREADLOCKS ARE THREE YEARS OLD! wow!
three whole years. i love them.

we're baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!!
so, we're back in providence . . . setting up the new apartment (painting, unpacking, etc), starting school (jon), getting back in to work (tabitha), getting to know the new roommate (matt), and reuniting with the old one (lisa) . . .it's been great. but sort of nuts.
tomorrow i have the whole day off . . . no promises, but if jon leaves the computer at home when he leaves for school . . . things might happen.
for now . . . just know that i've been reading some good things, making new resolutions, and spending some quality time with good people . . . having good conversations and eating good food.
these things are important.
