my dog is so cute

besides the fact that he eats crap he shouldn't and gets in the sink when we are gone . . . my dog is the cutest.
for thanksgiving we got him this squeaky toy to play with that is a stuffed raccoon . . . it has long since stopped squeaking, but he LOVES it still. we were SURE he would rip it up and get the stuffing all over everywhere . . . but nope. he plays so gently with it. he carries it around in his mouth. he snuggles with it in bed.
right now it is sitting between his paws and he is licking it. grooming it like it was his own puppy.
everyone now: aaaaawwwwww!!!!!

oregon part 3
the NEXT day . . . we (just the girls) took a trip to the oregon coast . . . yay!
i have MISSED the pacific ocean like mad.
we always go to cannon beach . . . and hike down into this beach from ecola state park.

we brought hudson and traipsed through the mud in our galoshes.
he loved it.

isn't the oregon coast amazing?

we chilled for awhile. hudson and coleen swam. we watched the waves and walked along the beach.
the sun came out for a bit - that was nice.
then we hiked back to the car

and then we headed into town for some browsing at all our favortie spots and lunch at bill's tavern (joined by the carload of boys). we ended our trek through town at bella's for coffee (the sleepy monk [an organic coffee roaster] was closed that day . . . sad face) and headed home. the boys took the smelly wet pup with them! :)
that night, our dear sweet friend molly had invited us to dinner at her house . . . spagetti, red wine and good friends . . . it all made jon and i pretty sleepy. by now, we'd been in town for a week and we'd been going nonstop. by 1030pm jon was asleep on molly's couch.
looking back, i am sure i've skipped some days . . . like our time at imago dei (did i mention that?) and having dinner at pizzicato with our good friends jen and derek and finding out that nora and allen are incubating TWINS! and having christmas at my sister's house with my family before she headed to nashville with her husband to spend the holdiays with her in-laws. we played guitar hero (which i just heard that someone broke in to their apt and stole all their wii stuff and their laptop . . . they are just poor students, so if you can . . . maybe think of helping them replace the computer? they need to do their homework!!!) . . . it was funny to see my dad "playing" a guitar! i guess i am missing some things because i don't have pictures of everything and i am just going based on the pictures and my faulty memory . . .
um . . . so remind me if you were there and you remember stories i am not telling. and if you have pictures that you'd like to contribute!
anyway . . . we did some other stuff the next day (after beach day) and ended up at the laurelwood with sara, peter,

breanna, jake, chad, etc because chad was leaving us to go back to california (he plays in a band down there . . . has a fiance . . . things like that. he's kind of important) the next day.

i was still working on resting and recovering from the fast pace of the week before. so i just sat. and had coffee. mmmm stumptown - wait? this is cold!!! waiter? can i have a warm cup of coffee please? no problem. wait?! this is gross. i am so sad . . . (that's what happened. only after i got it the second time . . . i didn't want to say anything because i didn't want to be "that girl.")
one last picture of the dwindling CREW (sort of dark)

someday we'll all be together again. in our commune in yamhill county. with goats.
----
so, our friends james and tanya have a half lab half malamute puppy (8 months old and he is TALLER than hudson!!) and we got together with them for a play date . . . they PLAYED AND PLAYED for HOURS . . . seriously. hudson was the happiest dog ever. he finally found another dog with the same amount of CRAZY ENERGY that he has.

i wish we were neighbors so we could let them play all day every day. hudson wouldn't get into so much trouble if that were the case (he gets bored easily).
so . . . that's all the pictures i've uploaded so far . . . i'll get started on uploading week #2 . . . and post some more later . . .
loves,
t and j and h

oregon my oregon part deux
where was i? oh yes, waking up in arwen's/my bed in vancouver . . . sweet.
i know we slept late cause that's what we do best. i know we went downtown and eventually ended up at world market and urban outfitters cause that's also what we do best, but i don't remember if that happened this day or the day before. alls i know is that when i am with r1, i am a happy girl no matter what we do. i do know for sure that we took some awesome pictures and that one of them included miss a with her love jim from the office.
oh and also that we watched a movie with him and mandy moore in it . . . and that robin williams was the most annoying i have EVER seen him in this movie . . . but jim/jon was super cute as always.
so . . .
our good friend jake was having an egg nog centered house party for the holidays that night . . . also to celebrate the fact that our good friend (and recently engaged i might add) chad had come in to town that day . . . after a few glasses of egg nog (not for me, i hate the stuff), the group posed for the traditional picture:

i can't help but notice two things:
1) it is a frighteningly similar picture from last year's party (and that dave is in almost the exact same place in both pictures!)

and 2) there are some very important people a) missing from the shot and b) added to the shot who weren't there before.
and all of them have a special place in my heart.

(esp these three)
so, after the photo op, we headed down to jake's basement room to make some music.

we all got pretty sleepy with bellies full of egg nog and hearts full of love . . . eventually we said goodnight

the next morning, jon's mom was in town with a client of hers and so we (jon, sara, peter, deborah and i) decided to meet up with her for brunch on hawthorne at the cup and saucer cafe . . . a staple in the life of any true portlander. we willingly braved the long waiting line, i awkwardly said hello to an old boss of mine who happenend to be there as well and then we dug in to the extraordinairily good food.
i had biscuits with vegetarian gravy (and a cup of stumptown coffee).

did i mention that we have not found a decent restaraunt here in providence that serves biscuits and gravy???? its like no one has heard of this super yummy super awesome carb-filled breakfast . . .
anyway, i hung out with miss deborah on hawthorne that day and then met up with my good friend sonja at the bipartisan cafe . . . after which i went to see THE PORTERS for a bit (where they shared with me some super yummy potatoes for dinner. did i mention that the porters are one of my favorite families in the entire universe? well, if i didn't i should have . . . and i am counting the days until i can hug all of their necks again!) and then we met up with more of the crew at roscoe's.
roscoe's is this totally dive bar in portland near craptastic 82nd ave. no one goes there but metalheads and meth-heads probably. and us. its free to play pool and a dollar to choose a few songs in the jukebox. at one point my friend chris (who is now in africa . . . how am i going to live for an entire YEAR while he is in africa?????) wanted to choose some songs but didn't have a dollar . . . he said this sort of loud (miller high life was on special that night) so one of the metalheads at the bar brought him a dollar (out of the kindness of his heart) and let him choose a song.
you know what songs he chose? some R&B song that escapes me . . . i think maybe the first one was "i swear" or something by All 4 One . . . and the kid at the bar says "I GAVE HIM A DOLLAR FOR THIS CRAP?!?!" . . . and we are all laughing and enjoying it and singing along . . . and then "2+2=5" by radiohead was the second song and we all just waxed reflective and soaked in the moment . . .

sweet.
that night we slept soundly on the air matress at sara's place.
more to come . . .

oregon . . . my oregon . . .
so, i am finally blogging about our trip home to oregon for christmas . . . we've been home for almost a month now i know. but our internet connection wasn't working when we got back so we've been "making-do" until we finally got it fixed wednesday.
now we are surfing the web with fiber optic-ness. its fiberopticallyfantastic.
anyhow . . . so we drove to boston the day we flew out. we spent the whole day before and the morning of packing. hudson was all clingy and worried that we were going to leave him behind. when jon packed the last thing in the car, we headed across the street to this AWESOME restaraunt that we love called "the blue elephant" (come visit and we will go eat there, i promise). and we didn't even leave the parking lot before we could hear hudson crying and barking at the window . . . so we took him out and let him sit in the car while we had breakfast. he LOVES sitting in the car. it's his way of insuring that we wont leave without him, i think.
after eating waaaay too much food in anticipation for a 6 1/2 hour flight (plus the hour + drive to boston and the checking in and the waiting, etC) with no food, we drove to boston. our friend danny lives there so we drove to his house and he took us to the airport. he had agreed to watch our car while we were gone . . . danny is a saint, btw.
we checked hudson in for his flight with no problem (except a slight worry when they told him that animals were banned on all flights during the time we were planning to fly back to boston . . . but that was misinformation). we gave him a Kong filled with peanut butter and carrot sticks that i had put in the freezer overnight. we hoped that and his squeaky ball would keep him occupied during the flight. he didn't freak out at all when we said goodbye. when he has food, he doesn't care about anything.
so, our flight was great. we had snacks, books, national geographics, cross word puzzles and ipods.
my sister sara picked us up from the airport (and rachel met us at the gate with coffee people americanos in her hands!!! she works at the airport so she can go through security! awesome!). we had to wait a while for them to bring us hudson, but when he finally came, he was fine. whining to get out and sniff things, but fine. we packed up sara's volvo and drove to her house to settle in and recover before meeting up with THE CREW at k-school. oooohhhh the dungeon burger with a bocca patty and cajun tots . . . . top it off with a nice local portland brew and some good friends . . . perfect.
here is a picture of hudson under sara's christmas tree

so, the next day, we spent all day at jamie and coleen's (my old roommates) house. coleen had bought hudson a dog sweater from goodwill and it FIT HIM!

isn't he handsome? he doesn't mind at all when we put clothes on him . . . but i think it's cheesy. he doesn't need a sweater, he's a malamute. but he loooks so cute!!
so, we spent all day with jamie watching LOST season 3. we are all caught up now and can't wait for season 4 to start next week . . . even though the writer's strike means there are only going to be 8 episodes . . . blah. get it figured out producers.
anyway, this is the best movie rental place in the world (their reader board says it's true):

they let us rent the entire season 3 of LOST for a WEEK for $5. name another movie store that will do that!!!
that night, we had a blessing way for my dear miss jamie. we celebrated her transition into motherhood with good food, songs, blessings, and gifts. it was so good to see that she is so supported - it is so hard for me not to be near her!!!

she had made a plaster cast of her belly and we all painted it that night. hudson stepped in the paint and tracked blue paw prints all over the house.
the next day i hung out with sara, peter and arwen. we ate at pepinos. i got a rice milk latte from "the fresh pot" inside of powell's on hawthorne and almost got hit by a car because it was so good that i stopped walking while crossing the street. we miss good coffee over here . . . no one makes a latte like those pesky portland hipster baristas. bless you.
arwen and i needed some neccesities at fred meyer. and i just needed to be inside of the one-stop-shopping-ness that is fm. while there, we came across the FURreal pony. DON'T buy this for your children! it eats souls!

that night, we met up with a slew of the crew for the j tillman, david bazan show at mississippi studios.
two words: OOOHHHH GAAWWWWWDD.
it was good.
j tillman started the set by breaking your heart slow and steady like a boa constrictor and david bazan swept the pieces under the rug in the way that only he can. closing songs: his version of "god rest ye merry gentlemen" and a cover of "allelujia" by lenard cohen.
i'll say it again: OOHHH GAWWWWWWD.
i took videos. if i can make myself get a youtube account, i will post them. unless there is another way? anyone? beuler?

the best way to finish this night? watching more LOST and sleeping in the buschgentrygordonmartinezmaritalbed in vancouver washington.
i woke up on my old mattress happy as a clam. and in the pacific northwest.
more to come . . .

back from the pacific northwest
and not too happy about it.
we had a GREAT time. we were there for 3 weeks. the pup loved it. we loved it. our family and friends loved on us.
hmmmmm.
moment of slience in memoradum.
so, i am currently waiting for my slow internet connection to upload my bajillion pictures onto schmyschpace. and since i wasted a bunch of time doing that . . . pictures will not arrive in bloglandia anytime in the next one or two days. but after three days maybe.
we are looking for a new internet provider . . . know anyone in new england who could make an informed reccomendation?
also: we are currently rearranging and redecorating the apartment. ex-roommate has moved out (PRASE BE) and we are cleansing any negative energy that may be left while prepping for new roomie to move in (the way she even just pronounces words is so gentle!). very exciting! the H (hudson) is a totally different dog now that the TV isn't on 18 hours a day. we don't even HAVE a tv.
and mostly, we've gotten furniture from FREE craigslist and off the side of the road (and salvation army). but the apt is coming along and feels so homey. we even got H a new doggie bed. its a big wicker basket (if you even know me a little you know about my basket obsession) and he LOVES it. he just chills in it while we sit and read and stuff.
J doesn't start classes for another few weeks and i am only working a few days a week waitressing and waiting for my massage license to go through . . . AND i interviewed today for a nanny position once a week. i hope i get it. the momma of this family is fantastic. she used to live in portland for like 8 years. she is an environmentally conscious vegetarian who was making her own granola when i arrived . . . and her daughter was wearing a jimmy hendrix t'shirt!
um, does it sound perfect for me? YES!
i've been waiting to find people like this in hell - i mean providence - for about 4 months now . . . payoff time?
i hope so.
