well, hello
so this whole moving thing is no fun. i quite. officially.
and (for tanya) i decided to write a blog!
i just got home from work (my massage studio) and my pilates class (my abs burn!) and am sitting down to relax for a bit with some chips and salsa (oh how i will miss trader joe's when i get to RI!) and an iced rice milk latte (made by your truly) . . . after i am done here i will continue to pack (booooo!) and then head to work at the zoo (yay!!) where i will serve beer and wine (in the july RAIN) to all the concert attendees while listening to the musical stylings of patti griffin (resounding Cheer!!).
then i will come home and pack again.
here's a thought i recently had while talking to a friend of mine who is with child (and had recently seen "sicko"): so you know how auto insurance companies are set up so that if you hit someone, you have to pay for it? well, why aren't health insurance companies set up the same way? when you "hit" a lady (as in, knock her up) why doesn't YOUR health care have to pay for it instead of hers? you put it there.
reasons we could think of as to why this is not so:
1) if men carried babies, EVERYONE would have free health care. cause that's just the truth.
2) because (legally) the fetus isn't actually a human being (until it comes out the yoni) then the health care costs are actually just going to pay for the woman's body and her health . . . c'mon all you conservative fundamentalists, go to town on that one!
3) pregnancy has been so "medicalized" in our culture that it is mostly seen as a disease to be treated rather than as a natural part of life to be celebrated and honored.
4) ok, this isn't a reason, it is just a question: how come in this country it costs so effing much to get born and to die??? these are things that just happen to us. we can't control it and yet we are expected to PAY for it? funerals cost SO MUCH and the LAST thing a grieving family needs are burial plots, cremation, coffins, etc to pay for . . . and birth! don't get me started. when i get pregnant, i am moving to ireland where it is FREE. even for people who are citizens. cause birth happens and we shouldn't be penalized for it.
there . . . take that and run with it. i would like to hear your (RESPECTFUL and THOUGHTFUL and PEACEFUL) responses.
also, has anyone seen "sicko"? i haven't yet . . . i tend to not like MM too much because of the way he treats people, but he makes good points and gets people thinking and talking about important stuff. i just wish he didn't have to be so mean about it sometimes.
there you go tanya . . . how did i do?
