what's new with tj's grandpa?
here are some emails my mom recently sent out updating us on her dad (my grandpa who has been in the hospital in grand junction colorado all month) . . .Mom called and said she'll be heading for Cortez, CO on Sat., the 28th. Her time at the hotel has ended and Dad will be going that direction on Tues., weather and health permitting!!!!!!!!!!! Turns out there are some folks from the Rehab. center in Cortez where Dad will be transferred to that are going to Grand Junction for some training. They will be taking him back with them in one of their vehicles on Tuesday. Mom will be home getting ready for him and getting caught up on some sleep in her own bed. YES!
Thanks again for all your prayers.
Dad has had a couple of physical therapists work with him and he's doing a few things with them. Still not excited about eating, but the exercise should build up an appetite...They'll call Mom if anything happens after she leaves.

Hello,
Mom made it home yesterday just fine. Before she left, she found out that their neighbor, Frank Baty had had two strokes this past week. This is Dad's best friend and she didn't tell him cuz it would be devastating for him. They still owe each other a chess game and Frank credits Dad with doing so much for him as a friend. I've had several great conversations with him.
Frank's wife, Becky works in the rehab facility where Dad will be transferred to on Tuesday..Thanks for your continued prayers.

for real?
i make graphs for my boss. you know graphs/charts/etc in excel.every month i chart out where we are as compared to the previous years in the same month.
today, SHE just started flipping through the notebook that we keep the graphs in and says to me . . .
PV: tell me about this graph. what does it mean? i can't figure out how to read it.
ME: see these words that are the names of months? those represent the months of the year. see the key here on the side? it tells us which of what color and style each of these lines that go across (here, see the lines?) here represent which year. see these numbers that go up the side here? see how it says "number of jobs" along the side too? that means these numbers represent the number of jobs. so, if we follow (for example) this one (look over at the key, oh, it represents 2006) it will tell us how many jobs we had in every month in 2006. if we wanted to compare jan 2006 to jan 2005 we would find the line that represents 2005 (based on the key, it would be this one). see how many more jobs we have this jan than we did last jan?
PV: well, that's a silly graph. it seems too complicated.
too complicated? they teach you this crap in 6th grade!
she's supposed to be the "office manager"! she can't even make the graphs in excel! that's why i am doing it . . .
just thought you'd like to know . . .
p.s. she still hasn't cleaned up the ramen nooodles she spilled in the microwave (again) yesterday.

this could be bad . . .
a new sushi place just opened up almost directly across the street from my house.i. am. addicted. to. SUSHI!
i can seriously SEE this place from my front balcony. i've been waiting anxiously for it to open.
good thing it is probably a higher-end sushi place - thus it is too expensive for me to go there often.
the husband and i will be dining there tonight (thursday is "date night").
anyone want to help me feed my addiction in the future?

up and down
the downso, my grandpa is not doing good (again) . . . he's not eating. so, he's not improving.
my grandma is pretty sad and having to stay in a hotel in grand junction (she doesn't have a lot of money). and my aunt and uncle had to leave today to go back to montana so no one is with her right now.

we're having a party on sunday to celebrate the fact that i have my massage license! feel free to drop by and laugh at me while i try to host a party with one arm.

good news and bad news
good news #1:my grandpa is fine.
i know. weird.
he's fine. it's like a miracle or something. thanks so much to all of you who poured support on my famly through this! his "stroke symptoms" are completely gone. they think it might have been the effects of the anesthesia (i need to learn to spell if i am going to work in the medical field!). wild!
he's still in ICU. but he is in good spirits and talking and teasing the nurses and telling stories about shearing sheep as a kid (he's in his 90s!). so that's good.
my grandma and aunt and uncle are by his side. now, let's hope that they decide to move back west where all their family is.
good news #2:
i got roller skates.
honest to god, old school, four-wheeled roller skates, baby! no in-lines for me!
the husband (aka: effing genius!) and i went to the roller derby recently (it rocked!! it deserves its own post) and it re-ignited my passion for roller skating. i used to be able to do tricks! but i haven't skated for like, oh . . . 10 years or something.
so, my best friend and i went to goodwill and (as fate would have it) there were 2 pairs of skates. one in her size and one in mine. it was meant to be. PLUS, mine have glitter in the wheels and along the sides.
so we buy them and go skating at the park. fabulous.
i can feel the cellulite melting away.
on to BAD NEWS #1 (the only bad news i have actually) . . .
BAD NEWS #1:
i fell.
i fell hard.
from my roller skates to the cement ground.
i was trying to skate backwards and hit a crack. and fell.
my left arm is in an ace bandage, my husband had to tie my shoes and help me get dressed this morning. it wont bear weight. i couldn't even type with it yesterday.
my left hand is twice as big as my right.
it hurts.
but i am taking arnica and icing it. i think it is just sprained.
i don't have health insurance, so we are going to say that it is just sprained.
i had to cancell a massage last night because it wont bear weight. so i am not making any money right now as far as massages go . . . bummer. there goes my spending money for germany.
craptastic.

i love my PV
so, we are supposed to be doing this project at work where we get references or "testimonials" from our customers to put on our website and SHE is feeding off of my hard work.i wrote a very professional solicitation (ew) email and was getting good responses while she wrote her silly "hey, give me a refernce cause my boss said he would give me money if i do!" (yeah, we get money for meeting a goal)
anyway, she noticed i was getting more responses than she was and asked me (in her "i'm faking being superior to you and checking up on your work but really i want to steal your ideas" way) to send her a copy of my email so she could "get ideas" for her own (i've seen it, she copied me word for word).
so, i re-vamped mine (oh! i said vamped! get it? vampire, vamped . . . ooooohhhh) and started again.
i have been keeping track of how many responses i have been getting and i think i have more than her by a third. this didn't bother me until today . . .

well, my grandpa made it through the surgery and he is awake now. but he is not doing well. he had a stroke while in surgery and cannot talk. his right side is not responsive and he also doesn't recognize anyone. but they told me he still has his spunk.everyone is very sad . . . what will happen next?

my grandpa
keep my grandpa and my family close to your heart today please. he is going in for a very risky surgery right now. they are putting a stint graft on his heart . . . he has an aneurysm (sp?) in the aorta directly above his heart and they have to use dye and mocroscopes and they said there is a chance his liver will just shut down or the surgery could leave him paralyzed due to lack of blood to his spine . . .needless to say, my mom is worried for her dad . . . and that makes me sad.

GRE UPDATE
so, the effing genius got his GRE scores back.he got a 6 out of 6 (that's 100%, people) on the essay portion of his exam!!!

oh, and also
did anyone ever read (and love) the book "bridge to terabithia" as a kid? i sure did. it changed my life actually.i went to powells and bought i when i was a freshman in college. that's how much i love this book. i am not a kid and i own it anyway.

flowers
wednesday when i got to work, there was a note on the board from our "nice boss" (we have a mean one too) asking me to order flowers for one of our clients who just got out of the hospital.the psychic vampire (who is a control freak) took over and ordered them instead.
and didn't tell me.
what if i had ordered some too?
then it would have been MY FAULT somehow.
so, after a few hours (i had noticed that she was ordering them and waited to see if she'd be polite enough to tell me she had done it) i asked her,
"so, you went ahead and ordered these flowers?"
PV: "yes, i know the lady and i really like her (probably not true) so i wanted to do it (cause she's a control freak)."
(she was explaining like she was in trouble or something)
me: "ok, i just wanted to know so i could erase it off the board"

here's another psychic vampire story for ya:this morning, i went to use the restroom at work. i made the mistake of not looking before i sat.
i didn't sit in anything. but i also failed to notice that there was a lot of toilet paper and a lot of dookie plugging the toilet up before i sat to pee.
so, when i went to flush i was very surprised!
"did i poop and wipe a lot without noticing? am i going crazy?"
no, it was the psychic vampire!! dun dun DUN!
so, the toilet is trying to flush and i am grabbing the plunger . . . and thinking, "man, this is going to make ME look bad. poeple are going to think I overflowed the toilet!"
but it didn't overflow. i handled it well.
i talked to one of our bosses and, apparently, she's had this problem for a while.
the problem of NOT FLUSHING.
ever.

the psychic vampire strikes again!
ok . . . so . . .this morning i wake up with a stomach ache (i had a kid projectile vomit in my kids community class yesterday morning and have been feeling sort of like i was coming down with something for a few days now) . . . but decided to drag myself to work anyway.
i get to work, not entirely being my super efficient on the ball self and SHE notices.
PV: what's wrong?
ME: oh, i'm just feeling a bit under the weather. i think i might have caught something from a baby i was watching this weekend. i think i'll make it. i skipped breakfast in an effort to placate my stomach. (ok, i didn't say "placate" but it is a fun word!).
PV: sorry. you'll feel better soon.
fast foward 3 hours.
PV: i've had it. i have a horrible everything. i have talked to the boss and i am going home. i feel so sick!
ME: do you need some ibuprofin?
PV: YES!! i eat that stuff like candy!

Thanks for your prayers and encouragement once again.My mom ended up going to Colorado with my younger sister(s?) yesterday without even telling me - so it made my decision for me. I guess for now all that i can do is support my family from here in portland.
also, it is probably a good thing that i didn't go since i feel like i am getting sick . . . i wouldn't want to give any illness i have to my grandfather.
let's hope this was the right decision.
