HELP!

my grandpa is REALLY sick and my mom wants me to go with her to colorado to help him and my grandma . . . we would leave tomorrow and we aren't sure when we'd be back . . . the problem is, i don't think i can afford it. i would be giving up an indefinite amount of work/pay AND spending money on last minute airfare (they really screw you with that stuff!) to go there (am i being selfish here?) . . .

WHAT DO I DO???

do i just offer to give her money to help pay for the trip?
do i go with her and sacrifice all of it for family?

if i don't go, i'll feel guilty.
if i do go, i'll blow all the savings we've been saving for our trip to germany and we wont be able to eat in europe or make rent on our apartment while we are gone.

most americans are living one paycheck from bankruptcy and homelessness and i am living proof of that. i can't even take off and help my family without going into financial ruin.

what do i do?!?!

shit.

57th anniversary of the people's republic of china!

so, on tuesday my best friend J and i went with our friend's C1 and C2 to this chinese national folk dance thing that C1 had heard about through the international school she works at. We all weren't too sure what to expect, but we got waaaay more than we bargained for!

it was awesome!

it turned out to be the portland chinese community's celebration of the 57th anniversary of the people's republic of china. i think they spoke about 3 sentances of english the entire evening, so we didn't quite know what was going on -- but it was incredible!

i am not sure how many thousands of people this high school auditorium held, but it was packed (including the balcony)! and we were some of the only 25 non-chinese people there - it was a great experience!

plus, the show was awesome. it was singing and dancing and awesome costumes from people from the unan province of china (where about 20 different minority groups live). what beautiful cultures were on display!!! the music, dancing, drumming, sights, sounds, colors, artistic elements . . . all of it! awesome!

it was like watching the cirque du soleil all over again!

----------------------

in other news, the PV (psychic vampire) is talking down to and belittling a customer on the phone right now (she does this all the time and then wonders why entire groups of people are boycotting the business!!). AND she texted me at 715 this morning! who DOES that?

the crazy co-worker part 2*

and because she wont clean out the nasty chicken noodle crap from the microwave i (being a vegetarian with some sense of hygeine) cannot heat up my lunch (yummy lentil soup [not made in my crockpot actually] with veggies and parsley!) today . . .

this means i will probably have to go down the street and buy something for lunch. or eat cold soup.

gross.

my co-worker is crazy!

two examples.

1) she was cooking a cup of noodles and spilled it in the microwave at work. and didn't clean it up! this woman is in her 40s and you would THINK she would be responsible enough to clean up after herself.
so, that happened yesterday. i got to work this morning and wanted to use the microwave. coagulated noodles and broth greeted me. gross. i will not clean it up for her. simply on principle.
she get's everything she wants by manipulating and lying and i wont play her games.

2) anything i like or mention that i like to do she either a) says she already liked it too and has to try to proove that she knows more about it than i do (even if she has no idea what she's talking about ["the velvet teen? isn't that that metal band from the early 90's?" noooo . . . "weezer? wasn't that a hair band in the 80's?" no!])
or b) latches on to it and becomes completely crazy about it. two examples of this include:
~ cooking with a crockpot. i use my crockpot on occaision and, in passing, told her that i had made some soup in it over the weekend. she goes nuts. buys one of her own (even though she said herself that she couldn't afford one) and spends an entire work day getting recipes off the internet, gushing about crockpots.
~recylcing. i can't throw paper away. it must be recycled. no one at my work recylces so i started my own box under my desk. she saw me recycling and decided to do it too (hooray for the planet!!) and now she's all talking about it and telling me how she's recycling everything at her house . . . and just going nuts. it's like she doesn't have a personality or identity on her own. she has to yoink it from the people around her.

and now she's just passed off an assignment to me that she swore to our boss she would do. awesome. now i have to do her work because she aaaalllllways passes blame and work off to me.

did i mention that i am quitting in a month and going to GERMANY for 5 weeks?!?!?

hooray!!!

welcome home!

hooray!

it is TOTALLY raining outside right now! i LOVE it!

sigh . . . i have been missing this weather. now i really need fenders for my bike.

bsc and lori: i hope you are enjoying "real oregon weather"!

---------------------

in other news: i dreamt last night that i had a baby boy named jamie. it was just him and me (i know my husband was the father, but he was somehow gone in my dream). he was so cute with his pacifier in his mouth and we were going around town together shopping at antique stores. somehow i knew he was related to my friend kristi's boyfriend (related, not descendant from), but i am not sure how.
strange dream.

maybe i dreamt that i had a baby because the husband and i had dinner with bsc and loo last night and they are having a baby . . . maybe that's it.

i never remember my dreams, but i have been lately. maybe it's the change in the weather that is making my bed seem oh so cuddly and wonderful . . . which would obviously mean that i would be getting better sleep.

ciao!

1) Snakes on a Plane is becoming a reality TV show (what the . . . ?!?). contestants will ride on a plane with 200 snakes. 5 of which are poisonous. doctors will be on board. if you don't get bit, you win a prize.

2) portland is being named something to do with top place to have a dog in a city or something like that at pioneer courthouse square this morning . . . but i can't find that info anywhere on line at the moment . . . help!!

i had a dream

ok, so things in my life have been nuts. mostly a few things in my personal life have been crappy lately. i've been sad a lot. i haven't had much motivation to really blog. so . . . sorry. i love this community and i miss hanging around on the corner shooting the shit and stuff, you know?

so . . . a blog for you:

last night (after watching harvey keitel in that made-for-tv movie about 9.11 -- i like harvey keitel, but seriously?), i dreamt that the husband and i were in germany.

we were walking around trying to get to our friend's house who lives in hildesheim. the sidewalk we were on at first looked like a real american sidewalk, but it was all rubbery and bouncey. i thought to myself, "those europeans are so smart. if i were to go jogging on this sidewalk, my knees wouldn't hurt and i wouldn't get shin splints! awesome!"

eventually the sidewalk turned into this straw and grass and stick structure that was built out of the side of a hill and we were in the german countryside. walking and walking.

all the while, i was speaking english very loudly (in a western accent too, i think -- i just saw "a prairie home companion") and the husband was trying to subtley get me to speak in german by replying to me in german. i didn't see the point since i hadn't seen anyone the entire time we'd been off the plane. there was no one around. if there were, i would definitely try to speak german . . . i get really self-conscious when i am in another country and don't speak the language. i tend to want to blend in as easily as possible.

finally, after i fell through the makeshift bridge-sidewalk thing and into a pile of clothes and stuff that seemed to have fallen out of someone's suitcase, i realized we had forgotten to pick up our luggage at the airport!

and that we didn't know how to get to our friend's house afterall.

and then the alarm went off.

i've got the trip to germany on my brain for sure!

hey, bsc and loo, when are you getting here? soon!!??

for the OMG files . . .

Oregon husband shoots chicken; wife shoots him, deputies say

CHESHIRE, Ore. (AP) -- A woman shot her husband in the back after he killed her pet chicken, the Lane County sheriff's deputies said.

Deputies said they were sure that Mary Gray, 58, intended to shoot her husband, Stephen Gray, 43. They weren't certain if the husband meant to fire at the chicken.

"We don't know if it was an accident or if it was on purpose," Sgt. Clint Riley said. "It depends who you ask."

Riley said the couple had been drinking for much of Monday while they did yard work at their rented home in the town northwest of Eugene, and they began arguing after Stephen Gray shot the chicken with a. 44-caliber handgun.

Deputies said he was then hit with a shot from a .22-caliber rifle, and is recovering. Mary Gray was arraigned Tuesday on an assault charge.

good news!

when the husband and i were on our honeymoon 2 years ago, we read in the paper that edvard munch's masterpiece the scream had been stolen along with another painting called madonna.

the good news is: the painting have been recovered!

sigh. it's like my marriage is blessed because of it.
