sasquatch revisited - day two
so . . . it's been too frackin' hot around here to do anything at all . . . please forgive the long wait for "day two" . . .
also, i am currently looking for a new job so any prayers, good energy or positive thoughts sent out for that situation would be greatly appreciated! so far, i've gotten two calls back on resumes and i am working on one helluvahn email to my current boss . . . we'll see . . .
ok, on to sasquatch . . .
-----------------------------------------------------
completely exhausted we skipped s'mores and went straight to bed . . . in the morning we had scrambled eggs and toast (cooked by non other than the husband from heaven) and j and i bathed in the river (cold!) with dr braumer's peppermint castile soap (hooray!).
the husband had checked the weather before we left and today was supposed to be the best day . . . sunny with clouds . . . and rain was forcast for tomorrow . . .
the day was going well . . . we met up with our friend d and his brother for the day . . . we were enjoying the sights and sounds of sufjan stevens and the red, white and blue, all american patriotic 50 states band . . .

little did we know what was coming for us.
iron and wine played after sufjan. the best musical moment of the weekend was when they played their final song (lilith) and it started lightly sprinkling while the sun was still shining beautifully. gorgeous!
then, during neko case . . . . the dark clouds approached. and the HAIL began! there we were, 20,000 people huddled under tarps, blankets, jackets, hiding in port-o-potties . . . whatever we could do to stay dry. the hail was so big and coming down so hard that it really hurt! there were about six of us under our blanket. every now and then one of us would peek out to see how it was going . . . neko only got to sing three songs before they shut the stage down for TWO HOURS. about 5,000 people left. we stayed. we were cold and wet the rest of the day . . . but BEN HARPER was coming that night and we couldn't -- wouldn't -- miss it for the world! and not for some
kick-@$$ hail storm either!

cold and wet, we passed the time being silly.

jon actually had a waterproof jacket. lucky.
people started a slip n' slide in the hail while we waited for the show to start. if i knew i would have access to a warm shower afterwards, i would have joined in . . .
my best girl ever.

isn't she gorgeous?
they finally opened the stage back up and we enjoyed the sights, sounds, and comic antics of portland locals, the shins:

and then . . . came . . . BEN HARPER!

my girl and i had to hold hands tightly and strive for breath when he came out on stage . . . sigh . . . he played some good tunes and did a 45 minute encore! he played "burn one down" (did i mention the lovely smell of "rosemary" that permeated the entire weekend?), and all the crazygood songs from his new album. we only wish he would have played "amen omen." what a great song that is.
leon, his drummer, kicks ichial tuberosity.
ben harper was supposed to close out the night, but because of the hail, they switched the schedule around and the flaming lips shut us down for the night.

we were exhausted, cold and wet, and wanting to go back to camp after ben harper, but we couldn't find one of our group members, so we stayed for the flaming lips experience. we were not dissapointed. they started their set out with their rendition of queen's "bohemiean rhapsody." everyone sang along and danced around. they had about 40 fans onstage with them dressed as santa or aliens . . . and videos . . . and crazy.
following the show, we warned people of the huge pile of vomit on the stairs (its amazing how many people still stepped it in!) as we waited for our friend. it is also amazing how much TRASH is left on the ground after a day at sasquatch. it was very sad . . . i would have stayed and picked it up if it meant that i could have met ben harper . . . instead, we wearily made our way back to camp, made some s'mores and crawled into bed . . . sasquatch day two had ended.
