double trouble, deutschland and a blogversary

so . . . this weekend jon and i went with some friends up to olympia to visit the tree hugging child and his mother. we drove out to mt ranier and went sledding (where the "double trouble" reference comes in. it was the name of the inflatable let-down of a sled that we took up the mountain with us) for the day (wonderful!). then we stopped and had thai at "the lemongrass" in olympia. everyone crashed on the floor in the living room for the night. the next morning after a breakfast of waffles and oatmeal, we went to wander in the sun along the docks.

it. was. glorious.

i haven't felt so carefree and what mac would call "godlike" in such a long time. we were timeless creatures in the sun by the water. skipping rocks, sipping coffee and living in true community. it was a lonely feeling when jon and i arrived back in our apartment and there was no one left but just the two of us (although that's not bad either *wink*) . . . just for the weekend we had taken care of each other, shared food and clothing and a place to stay, met each others needs and supported and encouraged each other. the group was such that no one felt they had to pretend to be someone they weren't and no one felt that if they expressed a need, it would not be met.

ahhhh. it was perfect.

and now we are back to real life. with one exception.

jon and i are currently planning a trip to GERMANY!! we will leave sometime in mid august (around our two-year anniversary) and return in mid sept (before jon's second year of his master's program begins). we will do research in university town (bayreuth maybe?) for a week or so, travel and visit friends for another week or so and visit prague or vienna or both for another week or so . . . it has been too long since i last crossed the ocean and i can't get this trip planned fast enough!!!

in other news . . . my blogversary is coming up on the 18th . . . i was thinking of doing something festive every day on the blog to celebrate the one year mark . . . but mostly i am just so happy to have met all of you people who are out there reading this silly thing right now. thanks for the awesome conversations, post cards, emails, encouragement, arguments, ideas, funny links, etc. it's been great!

i have decided that in order to celebrate, i will have a contest. rules and instructions to come . . .
