what's a girl to do?
when her husband goes camping in the olympic national rain forest for three days???
i can't sleep in our apartment when he isn't there . . . so i'll be staying with friends i suppose. our apartment was built in 1911 . . . there has got to be a ghost in there somewhere.
uuuuuhhh . . . resoultions for this year include:
~continue to take my life back from "the man." finish massage school, get my license and make my own hours!
~get more active (be healthy and exercise! i have not seen this much cellulite since "what's eating gilbert grape?"!).
~write more letters
~spend time reading and meditating
i had monday off to "observe the new year holiday." mostly, just because americans are workaholics compared to some other countries who have waaaaay more paid holidays than we do . . . so we get new year's day paid off (or the next business day. which happened to be monday).
so, to "celebrate" jon and i spent the day cleaning and organizing our apartment. we fixed things that were broken, deep cleaned the kitchen, dusted behind things, rearranged some stuff, actually took that pile of stuff at the bottom of the attic stairs
up to the attic, and went to thrift stores to find frames for some art that has been on our walls for a while sans frame.
while in line to pay for our fabulous finds . . . something amazing happened. well, amazing might not be the right word, but i ain't gonna go back and think of a new word. anyway, two groups in front of us in the line was this huge family with lots of children. the smallest girl was sitting in the cart. they were disputing with the cashier about the price of their purchases and generally ignoring the little girl entirely.
i glanced at her and thought to myself, "she is being so good and quiet. she is just patiently waiting to be wheeled out of the store and taken out of the cart. what a good girl!"
yet, she was being too quiet.
i looked down.
a big yellow puddle was just below the cart on the linoleum floor of the thrift store. a few drips were falling from the cart, slowly making the puddle grow.
"did that girl just piss?" jon asked me under his breath.
"yep, and no one noticed," i replied. "should we say something?"
the family finalized their transaction and wheeled the cart out of the store. what a surprise they were in for when they went to lift their little angel out of the cart.
we were about to say something when man in line in front of us stepped directly into the puddle of piss.
"ah, let's not tell him. it's too late. it would only make it worse," jon reasoned.
i supposed he was right. i hate stepping in exrement, so i figured it would be better if he just didn't know.
when it was our turn to pay, we carefully stepped around the puddle and informed the cashier of the surprise that the little one had left behind. but not quickly enough, the man behind us had apparently not seen the puddle and wheeled his cart directly into it.
does no one look where they are stepping anymore? does no one notice their surroundings anymore? does no one pay attention to what their children are doing anymore?
geesh.
say it don't spray it 11:01 AM
