hey, it's a popular car--or--how i am a big airhead

so, last wednesday, i crawl painfully out of bed. i wish it were the weekend already. i try to think of any reason possible to wait just a little longer under the covers. it's no use. i have to go to work and i have to be on time . . . but i remember that i have a training to go to that starts one hour later than my normal work day.

"hooray!"

i go lounge on the couch in my pajamas.

my husband's cell phone rings. it is d. he is home from his summer in alaska and he will be here in 10 minutes.

i panic.

i'm not dressed. the house is a mess. d is coming over in ten minutes!

by the time d arrives, i am dressed and trying to find an acceptable way to keep my dreads out of my face.

hugs all around.

after some chatting, we all have to go. d and my husband leave together as d offered to give jon a ride to school.

i realize that because i got dressed so quickly and because i don't have to be at work until later than normal, i have time for a coffee. i drive down the street to my favorite coffee shop that i pass every morning on the way to work, gazing wistfully into the windows. this time i get to stop and go in.

jon and d are in line. jerks.

"why didn't you invite me?"

"we thought you had to go to work."

whatever.

we get our coffee and then we all really do have to get going. i cross the street and take out my keys. i press the button on the electronic opener on my key ring. nothing happens. i'd say about 2/3 of the time this thing works. the other 1/3, i'm mostly screwed. no worries. i take out my car key and stick it in the lock. it wont go in without some effort. i look at my key. is it bent? maybe.

i force the lock open and get in the car.

hmmmm. the seat needs to be adjusted. jon must have been driving last night. i reach up and adjust the mirror wondering why i didn't notice the seat position as i drove to the coffee shop. i go to eject the drink holder and place my drink in it.

wait.

why are my cds out of place?

who put the faceplate on the stereo?

did someone break into my car?

that's not my faceplate.

these aren't my cds.

this isn't my car!!

i grab my coffee and jump out.

two cars back is another green, subaru legacy outback. that one has the fairy airfreshner hanging from the rearview mirror. that one is my car.

oops.

i'm not sure how much later, but some unsuspecting individual got into their car later that day and thought "why is my seat more forward? why is the drink holder ejected? why was my car unlocked? why is my mirror moved? did someone break into my car?"

classic goldilocks moment.

what do you expect? my morning was all out of whack. d coming home, getting some extra sleep, going to work later than normal, stopping for coffee. all out of my normal routine.

hey, and these are very popular cars in portland. they are everywhere.

and i'm an airhead.

say it don't spray it 1:34 PM

11 i heard that
