the day i was chased by dogs

two days ago, i went over to a friends house on my lunch break. as i was getting out of my car i heard their tiny, slightly obnoxious jack russel terrier barking.

i then heard my friend jamie yell "go home!"

and then i heard it. deep, loud, angry barking.

by this time, i was already out of the safety of my car and on my way up the front walk. i thought if i hurried, my presence wouldn't be noticed by whatever was making that sound. but then, around the corner of the house, i was met by these:

since they had just been barking at my friend, i figured they were up to no good, terrorizing the neighbors and their smaller pets, so as they headed toward me, i quickened my pace toward the front door, adrenaline rushing.

fumbling with the screen door, i ripped the first layer of skin off of one of my knuckles before i got into the house the dogs on my heels. all i could think about during that time was the kid from jerry mcguire who said, "bees and dogs can smell fear."

"please don't smell my fear, please don't smell my fear," i begged.

"quick, get in the house!" jamie exclaimed.

shutting the door behind me, we both looked at each other shaking. she was crying, i was laughing a bit nervously sucking on my injured knuckle. "how am i going to practice in massage class? they don't let you work with broken skin on your arms and hands." i was thinking to myself.

i was shaking from all the adrenaline and the fight or flight reflexes pumping through me. she was crying because the dogs had lunged at the backyard fence when she had told them to go home. the fence was a little stronger than chickenwire and they could have easily knocked it down.

and eaten their jack russel, Chloe.

why would people let scary dogs like that just roam around the neighborhood, especially when there are three schools and a park on that street alone? this was not the first time we have seen them near this house. so many children are on this street all the time. it just isn't safe. and it makes me nervous.

and it hinders my learning in massage class.
