yes, the name of this blog post sounds like a certain glee club . . .
but i am taking my blogging in a new direction. a few new directions.
one new direction is that i am actually going to blog more than once every three months.
another is that i am splitting my blogging between two different sites from now on - neither of them being bad diary days.
i may return to BDD sometime . . . and i will keep it here for posterity's sake.
BUUUT..... i will be blogging about general every day life for friends and family to keep up with us while we are living on the east coast at my gentrification blog and i will be blogging more about pop culture and crafties and healthy living, etc (sort of like my own zine, if you will) at bird on a wire.
so. check it out. change your links and feeds and updates and subscriptions . . . etc.
here's hudson with a bandage on his head . . . it was improvised to stop him from scratching at his owie before we were able to purchase him a "cone of shame."
well, we did it. we scrimped and saved and were able to fly back to portland for the holidays. it. was. AWESOME! refreshing. fantastic. full of love and laughter. a bit chilly. gorgeous. and renewing.
plus i got to eat biscuits and gravy with vegetarian sausage and drink organic locally roasted coffee on my first morning in town. PERFECT.
i was able to see my best friend, her little one melot (i can't believe he is almost 2!), coleen and jennifer. above is our "family photo" :)
we celebrated the new year as usual with our dear, dear friends (sorry saryl, your face is blurry!) - it was soooo good to see all my lovelies. most of us are not living in oregon right now so it was a reunion for everyone! we were able to see a lot of people from jon's side of the family this year too! they are slowly adding babies to this bunch so that christmas excitement about presents and santa is coming back to us! so fun! we were very blessed to be able to see j's grandma rose three days in a row. she gets so tired so quickly that we didn't get to spend much time with her - but it was sweet to see her so happy, and to hear her stories - it's sad that we don't get to see our families very often. we miss them. christmas day was spent at my sister r's house. our christmas photo was silly this year since d and i found a moustache dispensing machine at a local bookstore and thought santa would definitely want these for everyone's stockings! this resulted in several photos of teenage girls with moustaches. sweet.
we've been back in RI for a week now . . . settling in to the routine of school and work. hudson has been wearing a cone of shame because he developed some hot spots or some sort of allergic reaction and wouldn't stop scratching and biting. we gave him a good bath and put on the cone and he's doing much better now . . . his hot spots have gone away and now we are waiting for a cut he scratched into his face to heal. he's actually been really great about wearing the cone! he doesn't fight it at all and he's getting pretty good and navigating the house!
yesterday a good friend of ours from oregon called saying that she had a 48 hour layover in boston (she is a flight attendant) - what a great surprise! - she rode the train down and spent the day with us. she even came to my roller derby practice! we LOVE it when people come to visit! it's cold here . . . so pack warm clothes . . . but please get out here to see us! we wont be here too much longer, so your chances of staying on the east coast for free are running slim.
a picture from a recent fall-time hike we took in the woods
so, friends and family . . . i am headed to the airport in less than an hour to fly home to oregon for the holidays . . . so excited to see all of you!!! if you were wondering what we've been up to since i posted last . . . here's a quick update.
we celebrated halloween by going to our friend's houseparty dressed as 1980's prom king and queen. they had a fireplace so naturally, we took awkward prom photos. AWESOME! i've decided to try out for the providence roller derby! it's something i've wanted to do for a few years and just never had the guts to try . . . finally i decided, i'm not getting any younger, so i'd better try it now! if i can't do it . . . i'll find out in a hurry. i've been having a blast! it's fun, really hard, very rewarding, challenging and awesome. the sense of camraderie is great! i've never played team sports before, so this has been a trip. and the excercise is super addicting! my new gear is picture below: i also have a pink and black mouth guard. yes. i do.
we've had two snows already this year. both were mild and melted pretty quickly. crossing my fingers for good weather for jon and hudson when they fly to pdx on sunday. no way do i want them going through the 12 hours of yuckie that we had last year in the boston airport due to inclement weather! i've been crafting up a storm! this seems to happen every year about this time. it helps make a little extra money for christmas travel as well as makes great gifts! i've made a lot of things, but here are some examples of some hand printed cards (From linocut) that i made: so fun! i also started an etsy.com site, but nothing is on it for sale yet - waiting to see what gets given as gifts and what i have left over for the site. hopefully this will encourage me to keep crafting! hudson has been enjoying the snow, but he doesn't like being cold - some arctic dog, huh? we bought him some new blankets so he can snuggle and keep warm this winter. plus, he's getting older (almost 6!) and his metabolism is slowing down . .. he put on 8 pounds since his last vet visit! time to get him outdoors and hiking in the snow! also, jon recently passed his french exams (he did his german in a previous year) is about to take his prelims (9 hours of exams) and is just now finishing up all his grading from this semester. he played football and soccer on intramural leagues and has been growing out his beard to epic proportions. we've seen a few concerts (some of our favorite NW bands have recently come through - david bazan, j tillman, dolorean) and had our fair share of adventures. can't wait to tell you more about it in person.
in no way does that sum up everything that we've been doing . . . but it's a start! see you soon! here's to safe travels, love, tabitha (and jon and hudson).
Yesterday, we continued our "family tradition" of going out and getting pumpkins at the pumpkin patch. this year we chose salisbury farm for our location. our old roommate matt (who just got married) and his wife ari came as well as our current roommate lisa and our old neighbor sara. hudson came along too (he LOVED the farm so much that he cried when we left!).
these are photos that sara took on our adventure. i'll post mine when i get them on the computer. here are lisa jon and i on the hayride out to the pumpkin patch. (above) good times! here are jon and i with our winning pumpkins! after our hay ride back to the main barn to purchase the pumpkins we picked out, we had a family photo (above L to R: jon, sara, me, lisa and matt - ari was cold and waited in the car!). after our family photo, matt, ari and sara went home while lisa, jon and i stayed and conquered the corn maze!!! it was amazeing! :)
i'll post more photos in a few days . . . you know me . . .
